Wyoming and Rivier University: NP study closed, the DNP a conversation
Wyoming nurses cannot enter Rivier University's FNP or PMHNP: the State Guide shows both in red, the color Rivier gives states where prohibitive barriers stop it from accepting students. Wyoming's line on the chart
Rivier colors programs one by one, and Wyoming's row carries all three colors. It is the same on the January 2025 guide as on the February 2022 version still linked from Rivier's licensure page.

For Wyoming nurses deciding on Rivier
A Cheyenne or Casper RN looking at Rivier has one green door, the online RN-BSN, and one yellow one, the Rivier DNP. Yellow is Rivier's marker for limiting criteria, so talk with the Program Director before applying, and expect the doctoral program to want licensure in your project's state: RN for everyone, APRN as well for Professional Practice students.
Nothing else on the row is open to Wyoming residents, and the guide lists no exception. Wyoming nurses who wonder about training in an accepted state while living at home should ask Rivier directly; whether that could ever work depends on Rivier's admission rules and on the license held in the practicum state.
Wyoming's board and the two compacts
Wyoming's State Board of Nursing handles graduate programs from other states through paperwork rather than an approval process. The starting condition in its Chapter 6 rules is authorization: a school from elsewhere must hold registration with Wyoming's Department of Education or come in through NC-SARA. From there, graduate and RN-completion programs (APRN, DNP, MSN and RN-to-BSN) send the Board a letter each time one of their students heads to a Wyoming clinical site, using a template the Board posts, and put a signed agreement with that facility in place beforehand, with a copy held for the Board. Pre-licensure LPN and RN programs, by contrast, must ask permission outright.
Multistate RN licenses have worked there since the compact took effect in January 2018, and Wyoming is among the handful of states, five so far along with Delaware, the Dakotas and Utah, that have signed on to the APRN Compact. That agreement stays dormant until a seventh state joins, so Wyoming APRN licenses are still issued state by state. AANP classes Wyoming as full practice.
Moving to Wyoming during your program
Rivier NP students who take a job in Gillette, Laramie or Sheridan are moving into a red state for their track. Rivier asks for a letter to the Dean at least a season ahead, with 90 days as the minimum, before a move out of state, and expects the student, not the school, to track down barriers. Raise it with the Clinical Practicum Coordinator, then your Program Director, before you commit, and look over our notes on changing states mid-program.
Wherever home is, NP students still return to Nashua for the campus intensives, so the travel plan changes with the move too.

Questions Rivier students ask
Can I do Rivier's online PMHNP while living in Wyoming?
No. On Rivier's State Guide, the PMHNP is red for Wyoming, in either its MSN or certificate version, and red is Rivier's mark for states it cannot accept because of prohibitive barriers. The FNP carries the same color. Wyoming's green Rivier option is the RN-BSN, and the DNP is a yellow call to the Program Director.
Does Wyoming's APRN Compact membership help a Rivier NP student?
Not today. Wyoming has enacted the APRN Compact, but the compact is not operational until seven states have done so, and only five have. Even once it runs, a licensing compact would not change Rivier's State Guide, which keeps both NP tracks red for Wyoming.
Does Wyoming's board have to approve a Rivier DNP student's clinical work?
Approval, no; notice, yes. Wyoming treats a DNP as a post-licensure program, so the school writes to the Board about the student's Wyoming clinical experience and signs the facility agreement before it begins. The bigger hurdle sits with Rivier: the DNP is yellow for Wyoming, so the Program Director's answer comes first.
Is a Wyoming multistate license enough for a practicum elsewhere?
Rivier's Handbook asks for an RN license issued by the state where the practicum takes place. Other compact states honor a Wyoming multistate license, but confirm with the Clinical Practicum Coordinator that Rivier will accept it for your site, and remember that states outside the compact, such as Oregon, require their own license.
