Rivier University's online NP students do their practicums where they live, so the state decides a lot: whether Rivier can accept you there, which RN license you need, and how far the trip to Nashua is for the campus intensives. Start with New Hampshire, Rivier's home state, then find yours below.

What follows you across state lines
Three Rivier rules apply wherever you live. You identify a qualified preceptor yourself under the Practicum Placement Policy, your RN license has to cover the state you train in, and you work to the same August 1 and December 1 placement deadlines.
Rivier's State Guide marks each state green, yellow or red for each program. It cannot accept FNP or PMHNP students from Alabama, California, Iowa, Louisiana, Oregon, Tennessee, Washington or Wyoming, asks students from Colorado, New York and South Dakota to call the Program Director, and does not list Alaska, Delaware, Montana, Nebraska or West Virginia. If you move after you are accepted, read moving during your program: the Dean needs 90 days' written notice.

Which states can Rivier accept online NP students from?
Rivier's State Guide (January 2025) marks FNP and PMHNP green in most listed states, yellow in Colorado, New York and South Dakota, and red in Alabama, California, Iowa, Louisiana, Oregon, Tennessee, Washington and Wyoming. Five states are not on the guide at all.
Is Rivier's State Guide a licensure determination?
No. It shows whether Rivier can accept students from each state, program by program. For licensure in your state, ask that state's board of nursing before you apply.
Is Rivier part of SARA?
Yes. Rivier's catalog lists it as a member of NC-SARA, and online students can take unresolved complaints to their home state's SARA portal entity. SARA does not settle professional licensing questions.
