Only four states earn green in the pre-licensure column: Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Vermont. Rivier's BSN, ABSN and ASN run on the Nashua campus, with clinical agencies Rivier assigns, generally inside about 60 miles; the BSN and ABSN page covers them. The AG-ACNP has no column, so raise that track with the Program Director.
A compact state since October 2025
October 1, 2025 is when Connecticut's participation in the Nurse Licensure Compact began, per its Department of Public Health. Since that date, practice in Connecticut is open to nurses with a Connecticut RN license and to those whose multistate license comes from their compact home state. For most Connecticut sites, that makes Rivier's requirement, an RN license good where the practicum sits, simple to meet; the RN license guide has the fine print.
If your Connecticut license predates the change, pull up your record and see whether it is single-state or multistate. That answer reaches past Connecticut, since New Hampshire is a compact state too and Rivier's older 2018 form expected FNP students to hold New Hampshire licensure for the campus activities. The APRN Compact is a separate agreement Connecticut has not enacted, so your NP license later will be Connecticut's own.
Practice rules and who precepts
AANP lists Connecticut under full practice, but an NP earns that status only after at least three years of practice in collaboration with a physician. Newer NPs are still inside that window, so outreach to a practice may involve the NP and the collaborating physician at once.
Rivier's floor is experience rather than practice authority. Whoever precepts needs two years in practice: FNP students look to family physicians (MD or DO) and FNPs seeing outpatients, PMHNP students to psychiatrists and nurses certified in psychiatric-mental health. An NP in Connecticut's collaborative stage can clear Rivier's bar, and Rivier's graduate faculty decide on every site; the FNP preceptor requirements spell out the rest.
What Connecticut's regulations reach
Connecticut's nursing regulations treat a program based elsewhere as deemed approved when three things line up: its home board approves it, it meets the curriculum rule Connecticut sets for RN programs, and its home state's licensure bar is similar or higher. No extra application is described. Out-of-state programs teaching in Connecticut agencies must still observe the state's rules on ratios and on written contracts, and any clinical faculty on site need a current Connecticut RN license.
Those sections govern programs leading to first licensure, and they say nothing about graduate or APRN education. An NP practicum under Rivier's rules therefore sits outside their text, and the Program Director can confirm how Rivier reads that for your track.
From Hartford to Stamford
Four metros hold most of the state's clinics: New Haven, Waterbury-Shelton, Bridgeport-Stamford-Danbury and Hartford-West Hartford-East Hartford. The systems NP students usually study first are Hartford HealthCare, Trinity Health Of New England, Yale New Haven Health, UConn Health, and Northwell Health, the New York system now running western Connecticut hospitals such as Danbury Hospital. Each sets its own student terms.
Connecticut also sits closer to Nashua than most states Rivier accepts from, which eases the campus component: the FNP's intensives total nine days, PMHNP students attend a few weekends with their cohort, and acute care students spend ten days.

Is Connecticut in the Nurse Licensure Compact now?
Yes. Connecticut's Department of Public Health dates its participation to October 1, 2025. Either a Connecticut-issued RN license or a multistate one from the compact state where you live now covers practice there. Check whether your own Connecticut license is single-state or multistate, since the answer also matters for practice in New Hampshire.
Can Connecticut residents join Rivier's BSN or ASN?
Rivier's State Guide marks Connecticut green for pre-licensure ASN/BSN, one of only four states with that color. Those programs meet on the Nashua campus, and Rivier assigns the clinical agencies, typically inside a 60-mile radius of campus, so plan to study in New Hampshire.
Can a Connecticut NP still in the collaborative period precept me?
Rivier's test looks at credentials and experience rather than practice authority. Two years of practice is the threshold for FNP and PMHNP preceptors alike, so an NP still in Connecticut's collaborative stage can meet it when the rest of Rivier's criteria fit. Graduate faculty make the final decision.
Does Connecticut require Rivier to apply before I do clinicals there?
Connecticut's regulations treat an out-of-state program as approved once its own board has signed off and its standards line up, with no separate application described. Those rules address programs leading to initial licensure and are silent on APRN education, so ask the Program Director to confirm Rivier's position for your track.
