Florida residents can study online with Rivier University: the State Guide lists Florida green for the FNP, the PMHNP and the rest of Rivier's graduate programs. The state side is light, since Florida's board concerns itself with pre-licensure schools. The search side takes planning, because Florida's TEACH funding pays clinical sites only for students of Florida-based programs.

The guide measures acceptance only; it is no verdict on Florida licensure, and it skips the AG-ACNP entirely, so bring that track to the Program Director. For the color key in full, read Rivier's State Guide.
What the Florida Board of Nursing approves
Section 464.019 of the Florida Statutes is about schools that want to offer pre-licensure nursing education on Florida soil, and the Board's own pages frame its job around those programs. For a graduate school based elsewhere that sends an NP student to a Florida clinic, the statute adds nothing to do: no approval, no notice.
Rivier's own steps take longer: you still identify a preceptor who fits your track, send the Preceptor Request Form with that clinician's license, credentials and CV, wait on a contract between Rivier and the site, and keep your CastleBranch records current. The placement deadlines page shows how those pieces line up with August 1 and December 1.
Protocol practice and the people you will ask
AANP files Florida under restricted practice. For select NPs, a physician protocol lasts a whole career, though exemptions can apply. Expect to meet NPs practicing under a supervising physician's protocol; either clinician can teach you if Rivier's standard is met. Rivier's standard for each track, two years of practice included, is on the FNP and PMHNP requirement pages.
Most clinics sit in the Miami, Tampa, Orlando and Jacksonville metros. Large systems students research include Baptist Health South Florida, UF Health, HCA Florida Healthcare, BayCare Health System and AdventHealth, each with student terms of its own.
TEACH money stays with Florida programs
TEACH (Training, Education, and Clinicals in Health) is administered by Florida's AHCA. Qualifying facilities, among them FQHCs, rural health clinics and community mental health centers, can be reimbursed when they train primary care APRN students and nursing students. The catch for you: eligibility is limited to students whose accredited program is headquartered in Florida, so hosting a Rivier student earns a clinic nothing under TEACH. It is a facility payment rather than a preceptor tax credit, and it depends on appropriation.
The practical effect is that a safety-net clinic may have a budget reason to prefer in-state students. Answer it with what you control: a fixed schedule, records already complete, and a contract request ready to start.
Licensing in Florida and the Nashua trips
Florida put the Nurse Licensure Compact in place in January 2018. A Florida multistate license satisfies Rivier's rule for Florida sites and carries into New Hampshire as well, and a nurse whose home state is another compact member can work in Florida on that multistate license. Each NP track also brings you north. As an FNP student, count on nine campus days in three intensives; PMHNP cohorts meet on campus over three weekends, and the acute care MSN takes ten days. Book them before you confirm clinical days, and check the campus intensives page for the 2026-27 FNP dates.

Questions Rivier students ask
Does Florida require Board approval for my Rivier NP clinicals?
Florida's approval law is aimed at schools delivering pre-licensure education in Florida, which is also how the Board explains its role. It contains no filing for a graduate school from another state that places a student in Florida. Rivier's own approvals still apply: graduate faculty decide on the site, while the Clinical Practicum Coordinator checks that the contract and documents are in place.
Can a Florida clinic receive TEACH funds for hosting me?
No. TEACH money follows students of accredited Florida-based programs, and Rivier is a New Hampshire university. The program pays facilities rather than individual preceptors and depends on appropriation each year. A well-prepared student with simple paperwork gives a Florida preceptor other reasons to agree.
Can an NP working under a physician protocol precept my Rivier FNP?
Yes, provided the NP is an FNP seeing outpatients in family practice and has been practicing for two years or longer. The supervising physician, if an MD or DO in family practice, can serve as well. Rivier's graduate faculty approve the final choice, so give them both names if both are willing.
Is Florida green for Rivier's DNP?
Yes. The January 2025 State Guide marks Florida green for the Doctor of Nursing Practice as well as the MSN tracks. DNP students need an RN license, unencumbered, wherever their project takes place, plus an APRN license there on the Professional Practice track, and they work with a committee-approved external expert; see the DNP page.
